Despite the challenges of 2020, Art Shape are thrilled to bring you this diverse and glorious exhibition of painting, mixed media, drawing and installation created by artists on the Art Bridge Emergents programme, artist in residence Deb Hoy and commissioned artists.
Our partnership with Westonbirt Arboretum has proved a solace and inspiration for our artists who have presented different perspectives on the critical connection between humans and trees. The work demonstrates a deep engagement and connection with the Arboretum.

About the programme
Art Shape were delighted to receive generous funding from Arts Council England to run Art Bridge Emergents: our fourth programme of creative development for artists who face disabling barriers and wish to develop or progress their artistic career.
This programme encourages independence, while supporting artists progress through a combination of mentoring, access to resources as well as a platform for positive peer support amongst all participants.
Over the past few months Art Shape have been working in partnership with Westonbirt Arboretum. Artists on our Emergents programme have been responding to critical connections between humans and trees.
Residency at Westonbirt
Artist in Residence, Deb Hoy. Debs has lead workshops with the artists both on location at the arboretum and at the Art Shape studio.
The artists used the arboretum as a source of inspiration for an art installation which will be exhibited at Westonbirt, alongside the artist’s individual creations. The concept of this piece will focus on ‘trees as the lungs of the earth.’

This year, Art Shape Emergents artists also participated in the internationally renowned Cheltenham Paint Festival, exploring the theme of the Critical Connection Between Humans and Trees.
