The Coopers Edge Art Initiative
The Coopers Edge housing development is a new suburb built on the outskirts of Brockworth between 2006 and 2022. It consists of around 1900 new homes, a new community centre, a primary school, various parks and leisure facilities and some local shops. The homes were constructed by a consortium of large housebuilders who agreed to fund some public art, as part of their planning agreement.
Tewkesbury Borough Council and the three local parish councils that represent the area (Brockworth, Hucclecote and Upton St Leonards) have worked together to devise this process, alongside Art Shape – a local access arts charity.)
We believe the best ideas are likely to come from artists who may have a local connection with the area.
What sort of art would be eligible?
The widest possible definition of Public Art is proposed for this competition. Submissions can be made by an individual artist, or by artists working collaboratively. Public Art can showcase craft, sculpture, architecture and design, lighting, environmental art installations, film, photography, new technologies, literature, poetry, performance and celebratory arts, as well as social, environmental community and participatory arts.

Who can enter?
This competition is open to Artists and creative producers currently living in Gloucestershire. The commission must be delivered during 2027.
Selection criteria and the initial vetting/shortlisting
Please provide a CV and covering document that includes:
- Your proposal with as much detail as is possible at this time
- How you would approach this project
- A proposed timeline covering all elements of your proposal
- Your relevant experience / any past initiatives that you have been involved with – photos and visuals welcome
- Any relevant qualifications that you hold
- Your skills and abilities to deliver the proposal.
